Come to a book launch!

Launch a book!

North to Cape York, South to Mackay, and West to Mt Isa North Queensland is home to many talented writers who are constantly producing interesting and quality works. At Spencer & Murphy Booksellers we are passionate about bringing self published books that our local writers produce to the region, country, and the world. We showcase these writers and their books by way of local promotion, book launches, and featuring them here at the home of Spencer and Murphy Booksellers. If you would like to attend a book launch or have a book to be launched we would be happy to hear from you.
On November 25th 2007 Spencer and Murphy Booksellers recently promoted the much anticipated Mangoes on Fire by The Tropical Writers group. More than 20 writers have worked together combining their creative talents to produce a collection of 31 stories and poems. Memories of childhood, contemporary tales, Haiku, verse, stories from the rainforest, tales of the sea, myths and legends-these are some of the myriad subjects included in this diverse compilation.
We are also currently featuring the much anticipated "Growing Up With Cairns" a Memoir of the city of Cairns during the lifetime of the author Alan Hudson, born and bred local, historian and former editor of The Cairns Post (1974-91). Author Alan Hudson was born and educated in Cairns. He has written four books on local history: two on South Johnstone and Tully Sugar Mills; "A Very Public Life", the authorise boiography of Mick Borzi; and "Tracks of Triumph", on construction of the Kuranda Scenic Rail (1886-91). Since 2003, Alan has written "The North I Knew", a regular feature in The Cairns Post, on his memories of Cairns in his early years, on which the publication is heavily based. In July 2007, he became only the third person to be awarded the "Cairns Historical Society's S.E Stephens History Award" for researching local history and presenting it to the public in a way that is readily understood.
